HIPAA Privacy Rule

The HIPAA Privacy Rule is a key component of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) that governs the privacy and protection of individually identifiable health information. The Privacy Rule establishes standards for covered entities, such as healthcare providers, health plans, and healthcare clearinghouses, as well as their business associates, to ensure the privacy and confidentiality of patients’ protected health information (PHI). The Privacy Rule grants patients certain rights over their health information, including the right to access, request amendments, and control the disclosure of their PHI. It also sets requirements for obtaining patient consent and providing privacy notices.
